Is it possible for you to lay the whole cane down on the ground so that the roots of the mother plant will keep it alive? I take the cane and scrape a small area at each leaf joint, dust with rootone, then lay the whole stem down in well worked, well drained, loamy soil. It should root at each leaf joint and then you can separate after the roots sprout and cane puts out new sprouts at the leaf joints. (5 to 10 per cane) Don't know your zone. If you live in a cold zone, you may have to move your plant into a greenhouse for the winter propagating. Maybe you could pot the mother plant, lay it on its side, and try rooting the canes in seed trays without dividers. It may be too late in year to do this year. Good luck. Do let us know what works for you. |
