I have 4 orchid cactus which I have had growing for about 5 years.  I have them all in a south west window where they get the best light in the house.  So far, I have NOT gotten ONE  bloom on any plant!  I have had it... I want blooms.

My christmas cactus, zygo and heirloom, all bloom their little heads off, basically from late October to April or even May.  The heirloom is a start off a christmas cactus my great-great-aunt gave to my great-grandmother for her birthday in January 1920.  Yup, 90 years and going  strong!  So, obviously I can keep plants up.....

There is very little info online about these  plants.  I don't know what else I can do to get them to bloom.

I fertilize every two to 4 weeks in winter with a dilute liquid fertilizer when the CC's are in bloom, and let all of them dry out before I water.  I got them from my cousins and they are red, yellow and pink colors.  supposedly.....can't verify that for sure.    Do any of you have any words of wisdom on how to get them blooming, or is my house just too dark with not enough windows and I am not going to be successful at getting them to bloom.

From what I just read, they like natural light, but semi shade. When it is dark outside (in the winter) they should be covered if in a room with artificial light. Looks like they like to be pot bound, otherwise they spend their time making roots.

If you have the Night Blooming Cereus, a leaf has to be three years old before it will bloom, so if it is trimmed frequently there will be no blooms. Also, they like shade and moisture.

Hi Artie's Mom: I haven't talked to you in ages and just wanted to say hello. I know zilch about orchids... Weather here in VA is still brutal but the garden is doing pretty well. It was touch and go for awhile and I lost some things. Been busier than the proverbial "one-armed paper hanger" and the 'ole body went to pieces... Have to contact several people in the a.m by e-mail to let them know I have the St. John's Wort seeds ready to send them and another gardener with other stuff. Finally found a good spot for the heliotrope and it's thriving. Also found out I'd been over-watering it. Someone was looking for rue seeds and I have a ton and I'll have to check out who it was and contact them too. Weather here in VA is still brutal. It actually got worse since the last time I spoke with you. The heat indices (spelling?) had us up there at 102 - 104. Have a new sign in the yard, "Wild Bird Crossing". Isn't that a toot? I love it. Lots of Butterflies, Hummingbirds and birds. Later
R.Minter: Zone 7, VA & only 17 miles from NC border. HORRIBLE RED CLAY. Just ordered Shark-toothed shovel to deal with it. 6 acres, growing everything. Still make plenty of mistakes, still learning.....

These plants are VERY root bound. I know that the parents of these are not night bloomers, they all came from my cousins who live in northern California. They are in full sun where they came from. The only control of plants I have done is to remove the thin spidery tendrils, and only once of that. They got too many and too long, and I had to do something. I have not removed the big leaves. I don't know.....there does not seem a reason why they haven't bloomed. I just was wondering if any one has better luck with theirs. Oh well.......
