Hi I would love some help identifying what poppy this is if anyone knows Please? It is an annual one, self sows very easily but I very much collect seeds so I do not get overgrown with these.... even with the beauty of them. Some have only a few petals and some have numerous little petals inside as my pic shows. But all from the same seeds collected and planted. I was given a few seeds years ago and the friend did not know what type they were either, we both just love poppies along with other flowers of course . Thank You!! Happy Gardening Everyone!!! |

Hi I went to a Google search again of pink poppy flowers & i have found a variety of names for the one i have showing. everything from the actual opium poppy OMG to one called a Pink Dawn which is said to be bread seed... don't worry I will Not be eating any seeds from any poppies either. here is that site link & I think you will Love it http://www.onestoppoppyshoppe.com/s...wer/Detail which is a site you can order poppy seeds from Yeah!!! so you had a great idea, but has not helped me really... Still Thank You so much!!! I am interested in your seeds even before you try them yourself if that is okay with you as i do not mind what i come up with for poppies. They are all beautiful to me. I have even taken the poppy seeds that are sold as spices to eat and tried planting a few of them, well some grew they were a pale pale white with a pale pale purple bottom, very pretty . If you would like to swap seeds or i could get some of yours even before you try them yourself, later even that would be so Great. Just let me know. Thank You so Much fellow Poppy Lover Oh i have no idea how to find your poppy photo , Sorry. i'm very new to the site and still figuring it all out Any way you could possibly help me with that would be great and most appreciated . |

Hi cleomepoppy, You have yourself some opium poppy (Papaver somniferum). I just learned it in my herbaceous plant class. Are you interested in trading some seeds or could I send you a SASE for some? Seems like all the seed companies I've checked are sold out for the year. Thanks, Autumn |

Hi Autumn , I will trade or SASE of course !! What do you have for Zone 5 slightly part 4... Please let me know what you have, more flowers though or herbs, some veggies would be okay too . Thanks for your info on my unknown poppy !!! I thought it was the opium poppy after doing a Google image search, but i had came across one on another sight that looked like it too... there is a link below in another message. But i still think that it is the opium poppy too. Still So Pretty, especially planted in mass like i did. What you cannot see in that pic is i have a variety of other poppies in the front too, shirley poppies more, lots of different colors, then the pic under my name was in the back of these too, a Bunch of these Big Beauties... which i will have no seeds for again for a bit, sorry, but will let it be known when i do. Now great & okay all you gardeners, Yes looks like i'm growing opium in my yard LOLLOL Looking forward to seeing what you have to trade !! I Hope You Have A Good Day!!! Sherri |

Hmm, okay, off the top of my head I know right now I have (because I was actually working w/them yesterday!):
Ammi majus - bishops flower (North America native annual) Anethum graveolens - dill (great for butterfly larvae!) Aquilegia canadensis - native columbine Aquilegia sp. - burgundy color (though, open pollinated, so not sure what they will come up as from seed) Asarum canadensis - wild ginger Asclepias incarnata 'Ice Ballet' - swamp milkweed (this will grow in drier areas as well!) Belamcanda chinensis - blackberry lily (these aren't matured seeds yet, but should be within a month or two) Carex grayi - Gray's sedge Clarkia amoena - farewell-to-spring (NA native annual) Dicentra spectabilis - bleeding heart (native variety) Hibiscus moscheutos - marsh mallow Tagetes patula or T. erecta - French or African marigold (annual) (I'm leaning toward French, b/c they didn't get any taller and 1'.) Silene pendula - catchfly (NA native annual) Silene sp. - catchfly (European variety)
Here's a start, I'll post the rest of my list when I get back home tonight.

Sherri, I am just starting to get my gardens up to speed, so to speak. It is a slow progress when you have to do everything by hand, but if you would have any extra of the poppy seeds, I would send you a SASE> Right now I don't have much that I could trade. I have a few hollyhocks (red ) and some marigold seeds. If you don't I will understand. Thanks Kathy |

Hi Sherri! I'm back with the rest of my seeds. Iris versicolor - blue flag Coreopsis tinctoria - plains coreopsis (annual) Parthenocissus quinquefolia - Virginia creeper Echinacea purpurea - purple coneflower Echinacea purpurea 'White Swan' - coneflower (white) Coreopsis verticillata - thread-leaf coreopsis Aronia melanocarpa - black chokeberry (shrub) Gilia tricolor - birds eyes (annual) Clarkia unguiculata - elegant clarkia (annual) Gilia capitata - globe gilia (annual) Impatiens balsamina - garden balsam (annual) Callicarpa americana - beautyberry (shrub) Scabiosa columbaria 'Butterfly Blue' - pincushion flower boneset native Clematis Eupatorium purpureum - joe-pye weed Chrysanthemum x superbum 'Alaska' - shasta daisy So, all in all, a lot of North American natives, which I know isn't entirely too popular yet, but oh so easy! I've barely watered any of them throughout this brutal summer! I'm not sure about zone 5, I'm in zone 6 to 7, so I'm pretty sure a lot of these would work similarly for you if you were interested! Let me know! I'm curious to try some poppies next year...I've mostly focused on perennials, but dabbled in some annuals this year. |

Hi kgroves , I will swap seeds with you, oh yes !! I would like some of the red hollyhocks Please. But if you only have a few and don't really want to part with any i understand and then we can do the SASE okay. you decide if you want to part with any seeds from the hollyhock . If you decide you want to swap send me a private message please to cleomepoppy with your address, well actually i will eed your address anyway LOL ... so i can send you poppy seeds. See what i get for trying to do to many things at the same time LOL. I am serious too about understanding if you do not want to part with the hollyhock seeds !!! Oh i am thinking on some of the Marigold seeds as they are not really a fav of mine, but do help keep some pests away and especially in a veggie garden, but draw good bugs too... so maybe on those. I like the more not so common stuff but have some of the common too of course... I mean no offense okay !!! Oh what Zone are you in as i do want a variety of wildflower seeds as well... if you could get any and they would grow in my zone too, even along more water areas as i have a pond and live in front of a river ... i'll plant everywhere . Just let me know Please? pics would be appreciated too if you can and if not then it will be a surprise for me which is cool too !!! If you get wildflower seeds, especially from wetter areas i will need to know specifics more on where they were growing, how much water near, in etc Please. Thanks !!! You Have A Good Day!!!!! |

I absolutely LOVE your poppies!! I have some that come up every year...I'm sure that they're some type of Oriental poppy though. I would love to get my hands on some seeds for poppies that look like yours...I am in Zone 6 (Springfield, MO) |

Hi lmurphy1219 , Sorry it took me so long to get to this!!! I will trade or do an SASE for you to get some of these poppy seeds !!! If you want to trade what do you have to trade? What color are your perennial oriental poppies? Oh mine are an annual one, but very much reseed. In fact if you do not collect some you will get overgrown with poppies. I'm sure that you know that though !! If you want to let me know what you have other than just the poppy you were referring to that would be great too !!! I do have other poppy seeds as well, some perennials and mostly annuals right now. a variety of types and colors. I am basically a poppy lover, collector of them !! Oh i have other flower seeds as well. so if you are looking for something in particular let me know too. You can also feel free to private message me if you want to okay . I Hope You Have A Good Day!!! Take Care!!!! Sherri |

Hi spelisek i am not sure really, but i have been growing them for years and have police friends and a border patrol friend who have seen them, all now know they are the opium poppy too and none have said anything other than they are nice, pretty etc. I will try to find out from them for sure. but i think since we have flower beds, do gardening, grow some and i do a mix of a lot of poppies too that it would be okay--- still i will check and let you know okay . Maybe you should ask in your state though too, but mention it would be a few, maybe other poppies as well if you are going to, you garden as well etc info when you ask. Could you let me know what you find out for your sate too Please? Thanks for mentioning this!!!! & !!! I'll tell you ASAP okay!!! Have A Good Day!!! !!! Sherri |
